The Hokokuji temple of Kamakura is an old temple in the Kencho-ji school of the Rinzai sect of Zen Buddhism and it is famous for its large bamboo garden. As a matter of fact, it is also known as "Bamboo temple". The garden was a training area where the founding priest Butsujo Zenji also wrote poetry, but today is a forest rich with over two thousand bamboo canes, along with a small chashitsu where visitors can sit and quietly enjoy green tea.
