The Madame Tussauds museum in London has branches in a number of major cities, including Tokyo. It was founded by French wax sculptor Marie Tussaud, and it displays waxworks of historical and royal figures, film stars, sports stars. Marie Tussaud was born as Marie Grosholtz in 1761 in Strasbourg. Her mother worked as a housekeeper for a physician skilled in wax modelling, and he taught Tussaud the art of wax modelling. She created her first wax figure, of Voltaire, in 1777.
