Grey whale skeleton, Long Beach (Washington)
In November of 1805 in Long Beach, William Clark noticed the bones of a gray whale. Almost two centuries later, in 2000, when a gray whale washed up on the shore, the City of Long Beach buried it deep in the sand while searching for a way to preserve it. Dug up in 2002 the carcass was cleaned up, leaving the grey whale skeleton for everyone to admire.
